ALBANY–The College of Saint Rose had its four-game win streak snapped with a 2-1 setback to
Northeast-10 Conference rival Le Moyne tonight at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. The Dolphins (10-6/7-5 NE-10) generated a 16-7 shot advantage on the way to gaining a point in the year-long
Upstate Challenge series between the two schools.
Senior forward Michael Spadine and junior midfielder Jaime Carolissen accounted for the two Le Moyne strikes while freshman midfielder
Tyler Casavant scored for the Golden Knights (8-8/5-7 NE-10).
Between the posts, sophomore
Colan Balkwell recorded four saves in each half to keep Saint Rose within striking distance while senior Matthew Silva made a pair of saves for Le Moyne which has now won three of its last four.
Spadine put Le Moyne up 1-0 with 13:05 elapsed when he collected a cross from the right side off the foot of junior back Michael Kuss and drove home his shot top side. Casavant then squared it 1-1 when he flicked his shot off of Silva's fingers and into the back of the net at the 25:38 mark. However, Carolissen got his head on a corner from junior back Cal Fitch less than two minutes into the second period for what proved to be the game-winner.
Prior to the game, senior forwards
Jacob Sand and
Juan Garzon, senior midfielder
Dylan Klippenstein and senior back
Paxton Ballard were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the Golden Knights program.
Looking ahead, both teams conclude their regular-season slates this weekend with home NE-10 contests. Saint Rose, which is currently in eighth place with the final spot for the upcoming NE-10 Championship, hosts #10 and league leader Southern New Hampshire on Friday at 5:00 pm. Meanwhile, Le Moyne will entertain Stonehill on Saturday at 12:00 pm in Syracuse.
