UPSTATE CHALLENGE RESUMES TONIGHT WITH SAINT ROSE AND LE MOYNE

The Golden Knights will honor their four seniors prior to the start of tonight's match versus Le Moyne.

The Plot: The College of Saint Rose welcomes "Upstate Challenge" rival Le Moyne for a crucial Northeast-10 Conference encounter tonight at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. Both squads are aiming to solidify an NE-10 Championship berth. Tonight's match may be watched live on www.gogoldenknights.tv.

Last Meeting (10/3/12): Le Moyne scored twice within an eight minute span in the first half to upend Saint Rose 2-0. The shots stood even at 7-7 throughout the first period although the Dolphins wound up with a 12-10 advantage, including a 6-5 edge in shots-on-goal. They furthermore manufactured seven corner kicks as opposed to four for the Golden Knights. Senior forward Michael Spadine and senior midfielder Zachary MacNabb accounted for the two Le Moyne strikes.

Scouting Saint Rose (8-7/5-6 NE-10): Saint Rose has won four straight following Saturday's 2-1 (2OT) victory at Saint Anselm. It marks only the second time (1988) in their history (1981) that the Golden Knights have reeled off four in a row. They have furthermore reached the eight win mark for the only time since 1990 when they finished 9-8 overall during their NAIA era. In fact, Saint Rose has won eight contests only two other times (1989 and 1990). Senior forward Juan Garzon has come on as a reserve to score a goal in each contest during the current four-game win streak. Three of those four strikes have been game-winners. Sophomore keeper Colan Balkwell has given up only a pair of scores in 379-plus minutes of action for a 0.47 goals-against-average to go along with 23 saves and two clean sheets throughout that span.

Scouting Le Moyne (9-6/6-5 NE-10): The Dolphins fell 3-0 at #10 Southern New Hampshire this past Saturday after winning two in a row. Le Moyne started the season by winning five of its first six contests. Junior back Keleena Onyeaka has four strikes while senior goalkeeper Matthew Silva has played every minute. He has a 1.19 goals-against-average on the strength of seven shutouts.

Upstate Challenge: Saint Rose currently holds a 3.0-1.0 advatange in the 2013-14 year-long rivalry series with Le Moyne. The Golden Knights have earned points in women's soccer and both men's and women's cross country. The Dolphins secured a point in men's golf.  

Senior Day: Prior to the start of tonight's match, a brief ceremony will be held to honor seniors Paxton Ballard, Juan Garzon, Dylan Klippenstein, and Jacob Sand.

Up Next: Both teams conclude the regular seasons this weekend with home contests. Saint Rose hosts Southern New Hampshire on Friday at 5:00 pm. Meanwhile, Le Moyne welcomes Stonehill for Saturday's 12:00 pm date in Syracuse.
