Box Score
MANCHESTER, NH–The College Saint Rose scored in the final minute of the second overtime session to chalk up a deserved 2-1 victory at
Northeast-10 Conference rival Saint Anselm today. The Golden Knights (8-7/5-6 NE-10) generated a 20-8 shot advantage, including an 8-4 differential in threats-on-target, and developed seven corner kicks while yielding only four to run their win streak to four games.
Freshman forward
Tyler Casavant provided the difference when he collected a pass from sophomore back
Tyler Pomakoy and chipped a shot off the far right post for the game-winner with only 26 seconds left in the affair.
However, the Hawks (2-12/1-10 NE-10) got on the scoreboard first in the 10th minute when senior midfielder Michael Kearney headed home a serve that senior forward Brian Ayers delivered from the right side of the area.
Senior forward
Juan Garzon then leveled it when he controlled a 50-50 ball, and fired a shot off of Saint Anselm senior keeper Mark Kotsopoulos with 25:01 elapsed.
After outshooting the Hawks 9-2 in the first half, Saint Rose continued to control that pace. The Golden Knights built an 11-6 shot advantage following the first intermission that finally paid off when Casavant scored the second goal of his young career.
At the other end, sophomore keeper
Colan Balkwell recorded three saves for Saint Rose, while Kotsopoulos came up with six saves for the Hawks.
Form a historical perspective; the Golden Knights have now won four consecutive games for the only the second time (1988) in their history (1981) and have reached the eight win mark for the only time since 1990 when they finished 9-8 overall during their NAIA era. In fact, Saint Rose has won eight contests only two other times (1989 and 1990).
Saint Rose returns home Wednesday to face league and "
Upstate Challenge" rival Le Moyne. Kickoff is set for 7:30 pm. Meanwhile, Saint Anselm is back on the pitch Tuesday with a 3:00 pm conference date at Bentley in Waltham, MA.
