Box Score
ALBANY–The College of Saint Rose scored once in each half and was stellar defensively on the way to a 2-0 victory against
Northeast-10 Conference rival American International tonight at
Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. The Golden Knights have now won three straight and four of their last five.
Senior forwards
Juan Garzon and
Jacob Sand accounted for the two goals while junior forward
Jeff Kozlowski picked up an assist.
Furthermore, sophomore keeper
Colan Balkwell made five saves en route to his second clean sheet in a Golden Knights uniform. He got plenty of help from the backline of junior
Spencer Franks, sophomores
Tyler Pomakoy and
Massimo Smiroldo, freshman Justyn Vebraska, and senior
Dylan Klippenstein.
Garzon came on as a reserve midway through the first half and struck with 35:09 elapsed when he gathered the ball, created space, and made a run up the right flank before delivering a beautiful shot into the back of the net at the far low post. It marked his fifth game-winner of the year. Sand then afforded Saint Rose (7-7/4-6 NE-10) some breathing room following a flurry near the six-yard box. Kozlowski touched a ball to Sand that the latter drove home for his third strike of the season.
The match was fairly evenly played. The Golden Knights engineered a 10-9 shot advantage although the Yellow Jackets (5-7-2/3-6-2 NE-10) generated a 5-4 differential in threats-on-target and a 5-3 edge in corner kicks. Senior keeper Jason Ryan made both of his saves in the second period for American International.
Looking ahead, Saint Rose travels to Manchester, NH on Saturday for a 2:00 pm meeting at Saint Anselm. Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets are in North Andover, MA on Friday for a 7:00 pm contest at Merrimack.
