Box Score
ALBANY –The College of Saint Rose outshot
Northeast-10 Conference rival Saint Michael's 11-5 and scored both of its goals in the second half to chalk up a 2-1 win today at
Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. The Golden Knights (6-7/3-6 NE-10) scored twice midway through the second period before the Purple Knights (5-6/5-4 NE-10) countered in the 85th minute to spoil the shutout bid.
Junior midfielder
Drew Wingate finished a nifty give-and-go with freshman midfielder
Uros Antic with 61:55 gone by to make it 1-0 Saint Rose. Senior forward
Juan Garzon then scored what proved to be the game-winner eight minutes later when he drove a shot from about 15-yards out inside the low left post.
Freshman forward Aaron DaCosta put Saint Michael's on the board with just a bit more than five minutes remaining when he finished a through ball on the low left side.
However, the Golden Knights hung tough from that point forward to win its second straight. Sophomore keeper
Colan Balkwell recorded five saves, including a key one in the 80th minute when he got off his feet to deflect a drive from junior midfielder Simon Rodriguez over the cross bar.
At the other end, junior Nicco Roque made all seven of his stops in the second period for the Purple Knights.
Looking ahead, both teams have league games set for Tuesday. The Golden Knights are scheduled to host American International at 6:00 pm, while Saint Michael's is scheduled to travel to Franklin Pierce for a 7:00 pm contest in Rindge, NH.
