Box Score
MANCHESTER, NH – Host Southern New Hampshire scored seven unanswered points during the final minute of the first half and then built a double-digit advantage throughout the majority of the second period en route to a 60-39
Northeast-10 Conference victory against The College of Saint Rose tonight.
Junior guard
Desiree Simmons was the lone Saint Rose (5-9/2-8 NE-10) player in double-figures scoring. She finished with 10 points throughout 21 minutes of reserve duty. Senior forward
Jessica Walton and freshman guard
Nicole Bini added six points apiece.
Sophomore guard Lorreta Rocha scored 11 of her team-high 13 points in the second half to lead the Penmen (7-7/4-6 NE-10). Meanwhile, senior guard Deb LaValley went 4-for-5 from the floor on the way to 11 points throughout 17 minutes off the bench.
After Simmons made a free throw to pull the Golden Knights to within a point, 18-17; sophomore forward Chelsea Dunham hit a jumper, senior forward Morgan Munson finished in the paint and sophomore guard Brooke Springfield knocked down a trey at the buzzer to afford Southern New Hampshire an eight point, 25-17, advantage at intermission.
It quickly turned into a 10 point, 29-19, lead after Rocha finished a fast break with just more than a minute gone by in the second period. Twelve minutes later, Rocha scored inside that simultaneously made it a 20 point, 52-32, ballgame and pretty much made the final outcome a foregone conclusion as 19 different players wound up seeing at least 10 minutes of action.
Looking ahead, both squads have 1:30 pm NE-10 dates set for Saturday. The Golden Knights will host second-ranked and league leader Bentley, while the Penmen will head to Connecticut to face the University of New Haven.
