Box Score ALBANY – Host Southern Connecticut State University scored a pair of goals midway through the first half and then tacked on another pair in the game's final eight minutes to upend The College of Saint Rose 4-0 at Jess Dow Field tonight. The match represented the
Northeast-10 Conference opener for both squads.
Senior forward Mario DiMiceli scored what held up as the game-winner and then tallied both goals in the second period. Senior midfielder Mario DeCosta followed DiMiceli's initial strike to put the Owls (1-0/1-0 NE-10) up 2-0 at intermission.
DiMiceli made it 1-0 with 24:23 gone by when he capitalized on a turnover in the box. DeCosta then headed home a free kick from Ross McGibney at the 36:03 mark. DiMiceli subsequently converted a free kick of his own with 82:46 elapsed and less than two minutes later, caused a turnover in front of the Saint Rose (0-3/0-1 NE-10) goal and converted.
Senior keeper
James Taber recorded five saves for Saint Rose as the Owls manufactured a 14-3 shot advantage.
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights return to the pitch next Tuesday, September 11 when they face conference rival Assumption. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm at
Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. Meanwhile, the Owls are also home that evening with a 7:00 pm non-conference date versus Dowling.
