Box Score ALBANY – The College Saint Rose scored with less than 20 minutes remaining to cut its deficit in half and desperately applied pressure the rest of the way while seeking another tally, but the Golden Knights could not get the equalizer in a physical 2-1 setback to
Northeast-10 Conference rival Saint Anselm today at
Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex.
Freshman midfielder
Massimo Smiroldo registered his second strike of the year and senior keeper
James Taber came up with six saves, four in the second half, to help spearhead the Saint Rose (0-7-0/0-4-0 NE-10) effort.
Meanwhile, freshman forward Sean Smith and sophomore back Chad Dakin both scored for the Hawks (3-3-1/3-0-0 NE-10). Smith made it 1-0 when he jumped on a loose ball in the middle of the area and slipped it into the left side at the 41:42 mark. Dakin then gathered in a rebound off a shot by junior midfielder Bruno Dasilva and drove it home with 69:07 elapsed.
Regardless, the Golden Knights kept pushing forward that helped them generate a free kick from some 30-yards out on the left side. Smiroldo struck the ball the perfectly and it subsequently skimmed off the left post into the net for his second goal of the year.
Saint Rose again kept going forward following the restart, but could not come up with another strike before the final buzzer sounded.
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights return home Monday to face defending NE-10 Champion Franklin Pierce. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm for Sports Bingo Night. Meanwhile, the Hawks are home Wednesday as well with a 4:00 pm meeting with conference rival Merrimack in Manchester, NH.
