GOLDEN KNIGHTS CLOSE OUT 2012 CAMPAIGN ON A HIGH NOTE

Senior right-hander Nick Polsinelli fanned five batters over the distance to collect the win in today's nightcap at AIC.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SPRINGFIELD – The College of Saint Rose closed out its 2012 campaign on a high note behind a 7-3 victory in the nightcap of today's Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader at American International. The host Yellow Jackets took the opener 4-3.

Senior right-hander Nick Polsinelli allowed eight hits and struck out five over the distance to collect the win in game two for the Golden Knights (15-29/8-21 NE-10). Senior center fielder Nikko Wah and senior first baseman Daniel Marshall both wound up 2-for-5 to lead a balanced Saint Rose attack that featured every position player with at least one hit.

Freshman right fielder Andy Cherico finished 2-for-2 while junior center fielder Chris Amate stroked a two-run single in the first for American International (17-27-1/8-20-1 NE-10).

After the Yellow Jackets went up 2-0 in the first, the Golden Knights struck for six runs in the second and another in the fourth to provide more than enough breathing room for Polsinelli.

A two-run double to center by junior third baseman Kyle Charron capped the decisive Saint Rose second. A pair of infield hits by Marshall and Wahl, a run scoring bunt from senior shortstop Alex Ferenti and a sacrifice fly off the bat of junior catcher #A.J. Capone# accounted for the previous four runs. In the fourth, Wahl lined a leadoff base hit down the left field line and eventually scored from third on a passed ball.

American International rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the first game by scoring three times in the seventh. Senior designated hitter Kyle McNiff stroked a bases loaded single up the middle to make it a 3-2 ballgame before a throwing error brought across what held up as the tying and winning runs.

Capone, Marshall, and sophomore right fielder Justin Lewis had two hits apiece, while Wahl drove in three runs behind a two RBI double that snapped a 1-1 tie in the seventh, and an RBI ground out in the fifth. Senior right-hander Kris Barone allowed just one earned run on eight hits to go along with eight strikeouts throughout 6.1 innings of work in a no-decision outing.
