Box Score ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose closed out the home portion of its 2012 campaign with an efficient 1-0 victory against visiting
Northeast-10 Conference divisional rival Assumption today at
Bob Bellizzi Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex.
Sophomore left fielder
Scott Hladik belted a one out single to right in the second and senior first baseman
Daniel Marshall followed with a double to the gap in left-center that scored Hladik with the game's lone run.
Meanwhile, senior left-hander
Justin Brooks was on his game for the Golden Knights (14-27/7-19 NE-10). Brooks surrendered just six hits and fanned three, without issuing a walk, throughout 7.0 innings of action to collect the win. He furthermore stranded an Assumption runner in scoring position in the third, fourth and fifth frames.
Sophomore right-hander
Mack Naughton then came on in the eighth and worked out of a first and second, one out jam; before senior right-hander
Kris Barone took the ball in the ninth and engineered his second save of the season.
Freshman right-hander Santi Palmer suffered the tough-luck loss for Assumption (12-28-1/4-14 NE-10). Palmer allowed just the one run on four hits over the distance. Meanwhile, sophomore designated hitter Michael Filice went 4-for-4 with a double to lead the Greyhounds' eight-hit attack.
Looking ahead, both squads are scheduled to close out their 2012 campaigns with three-game league series on the road this weekend. The Golden Knights head to Springfield, MA to face American International, while the Greyhounds travel to Syracuse to visit Le Moyne.
