Box Score ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose erased an early deficit with some timely hitting and solid pitching as the Golden Knights recorded a 4-3 non-conference win over the Concordia Clippers.
Trailing 3-0, the Golden Knights would get on the board in the fourth inning as junior designated hitter
Caleb Gleason was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame. Two batters later, sophomore left fielder
Scott Hladik walked to put runners on first and second. Sophomore third basemanb
Jevonte Osterhout singled to center to score Gleason to cut the lead to 3-1. After a flyout recorded the second out of the inning, freshman shortstop
Ryan Hooker lined a single to center to score Marshall. On the play the Concordia centerfielder overthrew third base, sailing the ball into the Saint Rose dugout to advance Osterhout to home and tie the game at 3-3.
The next inning, the Golden Knights (10-18) would strike again as with two outs Gleason walked and subsequently moved up to second on a wild pitch. After working the count to 3-2, Hladik drove an inside fastball down the leftfield line for a double, plating Gleason for a 4-3 Saint Rose advantage
The runs proved to be all that the Golden Knights would need as after a rough start to the game, freshman right-hander
Chris Gould settled in, eventually retiring 10 of the final 12 batters he faced. Overall, Gould went six innings allowing six hits and two earned runs while walking only one. Senior right-hander
Alex Ferenti tossed a scoreless seventh and eighth inning for Saint Rose and sophomore righty
Mack Naughton recorded a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his second save.
Offensively for the Golden Knights, Hladik and Osterhaut along with sophomore right fielder
Brian Maynard and junior shortstop
Kyle Charron each had two hits with Hladik collecting a pair of doubles.
Concordia (6-26) got onto the board in the top of the first inning with a pair of runs coming on an RBI single by junior designated hitter Luis Gonzalez and a double to deep centerfield by senior third baseman Chris Rutigliano to go up 2-0. The Clippers would make it 3-0 in the third as after a leadoff single by senior center fielder Jason Berrios, Gould committed a throwing error on a pickoff attempt, advancing Berrios to third. A groundout by freshman rightfielder Erik Poldroo would later score Berrios.
Saint Rose is back on the diamond Wednesday with a 3:30 pm
Northeast-10 Confernece game at #18 Le Moyne in Syracuse. Concordia is also in action Wednesday with a 1:00 pm doubleheader at Chestnut Hill in Philadelphia.
