GOLDEN KNIGHTS TAKE OPENER TO SPLIT AT SAINT ANSELM

Senior first baseman Daniel Marshall had a three run double in the eighth to lead Saint Rose in today's opener at Saint Asnelm.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MANCHESTER, NH – The College of Saint Rose broke open a 4-3 ballgame by pushing across four runs in the eighth en route to an 8-6 victory in the opener, but host Saint Anselm rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to take the finale 11-2 in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader today at Sullivan Park.

Senior first baseman Daniel Marshall and sophomore third baseman Jevonte Osterhout both drove in three runs and junior designated hitter Caleb Gleason finished 3-for-5 to pace the Golden Knights (9-18/3-10 NE-10) in the matinee. Meanwhile, senior right-hander Nick Polsinelli allowed only one earned run and fanned four in 5.0 innings of work to collect the win.

Osterhout singled to left-center in the sixth that scored both junior second baseman Kyle Charron and Gleason, after the pair led off the inning with back-to-back base hits, to make it 4-0 Saint Rose. The Hawks (13-16-1/5-5-1 NE-10) then scored three unanswered runs, before Marshall and Osterhout broke it open for the Golden Knights in the eighth. Marshall ripped a bases clearing double down the left field line and came across himself on an Osterhout double one batter later.

In the second game, Saint Rose pushed across a pair of runs in the second courtesy of an error and a double play groundout. Saint Anselm senior right-hander Sean Hayden then retired 12 of the next 14 batters he faced as the Hawks scored four times in the fifth, once in the seventh, and finally six times on only one hit in the seventh. The Golden Knights loaded the bases in the eighth, but could not get another one across.

Hayden scattered four hits and fanned six, without issuing a walk, throughout 7.0 innings of work and freshman designated hitter Mike Hayden went 2-for-5 with three RBI to pace the Hawks.

Marshall wound up 1-for-2 and Charron finished 1-for-4 to run his hit streak to six games for the Golden Knights.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose returns home Monday for a non-conference tilt with Concordia. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm at Bob Bellizzi Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. The Hawks are also in action Monday with a 12:00 pm NE-10 doubleheader versus Le Moyne.
