NE-10 Standings
The Plot:: Today marks “Senior Day” as The College of Saint Rose and Adelphi close out their three-game
Northeast-10 Conference SE Divisional Series. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 pm from
Bob Bellizzi Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. Eight Saint Rose senior will be recognized during a brief pre-game ceremony.
2011 vs. Adelphi (2-1): The Golden Knights took two of three from the Panthers last spring. The two clubs split the first two meetings with Saint Rose claiming a 4-3 win and Adelphi earning a 6-1 decision. The Golden Knights walked away with a 6-4 triumph in 12-innings to take the regular-season series.
Last Time Out: Saint Rose took advantage of an outstanding pitching performance to rally from a 2-0 deficit on the way to a 4-2 victory in the opener of yesterday's divisional doubleheader versus Adelphi. The Panthers then put together an 11-hit attack to take the finale 5-0.
Senior right-hander
Kris Barone settled in after surrendering a two-run homer in the first and was spectacular the rest of the way for the Golden Knights in game one. Barone gave up just a pair of runs on seven hits and fanned nine without issuing a walk over the distance to pick up the win.
Saint Rose went ahead 3-2 in the fifth on a sacrifice by freshman second baseman
Ryan Hooker, an error and a wild pitch. A leadoff triple by sophomore third baseman
Jevonte Osterhout in the sixth followed by a sacrifice fly from senior first baseman
Nick Polsinelli closed out the scoring. Junior first baseman Anthony Zarrella homered in the first, while senior center fielder Justin Farnum and senior left fielder Jamie Liebowitz had two hits each for the Panthers.
In the second game, Liebowitz set the tone with a three-run homer over the left field fence in the third. The Panthers then added a run in the fifth and tacked on one more in the eighth. Sophomore right fielder
Justin Lewis finished 2-for-4 with a stolen base to lead the Saint Rose offense.
Saint Rose Diamond Notes: Saint Rose has bounced back to win two of its last three after dropping its previous five contests. The Golden Knights have scored three runs or more in all 13 of their wins this season. Junior catcher #A.J. Capone# owns a six-game hit streak. He has batted at a .304 (7-for-23) clip during that span. Hooker, junior second baseman
Kyle Charron and senior center fielder
Nikko Wahl are tied for the team lead with 10 stolen bases.
Adelphi Diamond Notes: Adelphi reached the 20-win plateau for the eighth consecutive season following Thursday's 7-3 win versus Molloy. The Panthers have won six of their last six eight with the lone losses coming via a 4-3 setback in 11 innings at Southern Connecticut State on Wednesday, along with yesterday's first-game defeat. Zarellla boasts a .569 slugging percentage on the strength of 20 extra-base hits. Farnum leads the club with eight stolen bases.
