SAINT ROSE SUFFERS 5-3 SETBACK IN SERIES FINALE TO ADELPHI

Senior shortstop Alex Ferenti had a pair of hits in today's setback to NE-10 rival Adelphi at Bob Bellizzi Field.
Box Score ALBANY – Adelphi University scored five consecutive runs to hand The College of Saint Rose a 5-3 setback in a Northeast-10 Conference divisional game this afternoon at Bob Bellizzi Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. In the process, the Panthers (22-19/11-14 NE-10) took two-of-three in the weekend series.

Junior catcher #A.J. Capone#, junior designated hitter Caleb Gleason, and senior shortstop Alex Ferenti had two hits each for the Golden Knights (13-27/6-19 NE-10).

Meanwhile, junior first baseman Anthony Zarella finished 3-for-5 with a solo home run and a double to lead the Panthers. Sophomore second baseman Richard Mejia and freshman third baseman Donato Signore added two hits apiece. Also, sophomore right-hander Matt Abramowitz worked around a leadoff single in the ninth to collect his sixth save of the year.

An RBI double by Ferenti put the Golden Knights up 1-0 in the second, before Zarelli tied it an inning later with a shot over the right field fence. A walk, two hit batters and a sacrifice fly by sophomore catcher Kevin Hutzel made it 2-1 Panthers heading into the fifth when they added three more. A Mejia RBI double coupled with run scoring singles by Signore and sophomore designated hitter Chad Houghton pushed the Adelphi advantage to 5-1.

Saint Rose hung tough though and cut its deficit in half in the seventh. Gleason bounced a single to the gap between first and second with the bases loaded and the Adelphi infield playing in. Sophomore left fielder Scott Hladik then drew a walk to bring across the third run. However, the Golden Knights could not take further advantage as the Panthers staff retired seven of the final eight batters it faced.

Prior to the game, Ferenti was honored during a brief ceremony in recognition of “Senior Day”. He was joined by pitchers Nick Polsinelli, Justin Brooks, Daniel Cavazzini, Richard Egloff, and Kris Barone, along with infielder Daniel Marshall and outfielder Nikko Wahl.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose will host Assumption in a 3:30 pm conference twin-bill Tuesday at Bellizzi Field. Those games are scheduled to be broadcast on www.gogoldenknights.tv.
