Box Score WEST HAVEN, CT – The College of Saint Rose left at least one runner on base six times and host New Haven broke open a three-game weekend series finale by scoring three times in the seventh en route to a 5-0
Northeast-10 Conference victory this afternoon at Frank Vieira Field.
Senior first baseman
Daniel Marshall went 3-for-3 while senior right-hander
Nick Polsinelli surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits throughout 6.2 innings of work for the Golden Knights.
Meanwhile, New Haven (19-4-1/10-10-1 NE-10) sophomore right-hander John Melville scattered seven hits during 8.0 innings of shutout ball to improve to 3-2 this spring. Junior right-hander Peter Jay came on in the ninth and worked his way out of a bases loaded jam to keep Saint Rose (11-25/4-17 NE-10) off the scoreboard.
Senior first baseman Cory Carr finished 2-for-3 and sophomore left fielder Chris DeMorais doubled and tripled to pace the Chargers offense.
New Haven struck for a run in the fourth when Carr scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of sophomore third baseman Brendon Buckley. The Chargers then tacked on one more an inning later after DeMorais tripled to right and scored on an error. Two doubles, a Saint Rose miscue and a wild pitch accounted for all three New Haven runs in the seventh.
Regardless, the Golden Knights fought to the end. Junior designate d hitter
Caleb Gleason smacked a leadoff double down the right field line and then a pair of walks interspersed among two strikeouts filled the bases in the ninth, before Jay induced a groundout to end the ballgame.
Looking ahead, both teams have conference road dates scheduled for Wednesday. The Golden Knights will head to Worcester, MA to take on Assumption at 3:30 pm, while the Chargers have a 3:00 pm meeting at Pace University in Pleasantville.
