GOLDEN KNIGHTS DROP TWO AT PACE

Senior right-hander Nick Polsinelli allowed just two runs on five hits throughout 7.0 innings during today's finale at Pace University.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PLEASANTVILLE, NY – Host Pace University got a walk-off home run in the first game and held The College of Saint Rose to a combined six hits throughout both contests to upend the Golden Knights 2-1 and 3-1 in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader today at Finnerty Field.

Saint Rose got a pair of outstanding starting pitching performances. Senior southpaw Justin Brooks allowed only a run on five hits during 6.2 innings of work in the opener, before handing the ball to sophomore right-hander Mack Naughton. Naughton stranded an inherited runner in scoring position to end the seventh and then retired the next four batters until Pace (13-10/5-3 NE-10) junior designated hitter Charlie Galasso knocked a ball over the left field fence.

In the second contest, senior right-hander Nick Polsinelli gave up just two runs on five hits in 7.0 innings of action.

Brooks and Pace senior right-hander Jonathan Hornung posted zeroes throughout the first five innings. Each team then put one on the board in the sixth as the Golden Knights scored thanks to a pair of errors by the Setters, but unfortunately stranded runners at the corners. Pace tied it in the home half when senior right fielder Chris Roemer led off the inning with a double to left-center and scored three batters later on a sacrifice fly in foul territory off the first base side.

The Setters then jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the second game. Saint Rose tied in the fourth on an RBI single by sophomore catcher Scott Hladik that brought across junior second baseman Kyle Charron who previously was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a failed pickoff attempt.

However, Pace went ahead 2-1 in the fifth on an RBI groundout by senior left fielder Patrick Chaputian and then made it 3-1 in the eighth when junior catcher Joe Solomeno stroked an RBI base hit to left that scored Chaputian.

Looking ahead, both teams have 3:30 pm home conference games scheduled for Tuesday. The Golden Knights will host Le Moyne as part of the year-long Upstate Challenge between the two schools that Saint Rose has already clinched. Meanwhile, the Setters will entertain Adelphi.
