Box Score LANTANA, FL – The College of Saint Rose scored five runs throughout the first three innings and received solid pitching from a pair of freshmen to upend Concordia for the second time in three days with a 9-4 victory Thursday at the
Palm Beach Challenge. The Golden Knights (6-3) have now won six of their last seven.
Saint Rose pushed across a pair of runs in the first and third innings around another in the second to jump out to a 5-0 lead that proved to be enough for rookie right-handers
Nick Venier and
Chris Gould. Venier surrendered three runs and scattered five hits during 4.0 innings of work before handing the ball over to Gould. The latter allowed only an unearned run on three hits throughout the final 5.0 innings to collect his first win in a Golden Knights uniform.
The Clippers (0-9) managed to get back three in the fourth and another an inning later to pull to within a run, 5-4, but Saint Rose responded with three runs in the sixth and one more in the eighth. Junior left fielder
Caleb Gleason did most of the damage in the sixth behind a two-run base hit to center. Senior designated hitter
Nick Polsinelli was later hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the eighth.
Gleason finished 2-for-5 to extend his hit streak to five games for Saint Rose. Senior catcher Christopher Motta stroked a two-run double to highlight the Concordia (0-9) fourth.
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights will conclude their week-long stay in Lantana today with a pair of games versus University of the Sciences (Philadelphia) and Nyack. Meanwhile, Concordia has a 10:00 am twin-bill on Saturday versus American International.
