GOLDEN KNIGHTS GAIN SPLIT WITH WILMINGTON

Sophomore right fielder Brian Maynard drove home the winning run in today's finale against Wilmington.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LANTANA, FL – The College of Saint Rose took the nightcap 4-2 to gain a split with Wilmington after dropping the opener 6-2 today at the Palm Beach Challenge.

Senior left-hander Justin Brooks surrendered just one earned run throughout 5.2 innings of work and junior catcher #A.J. Capone# had a pair of RBI base hits to lead the Golden Knights (5-3) in the finale.

Saint Rose snapped a 1-1 tie in the fifth when freshman shortstop Ryan Hooker was hit by a pitch, stole second, went to the third on a ground out and scored courtesy of a passed ball. Sophomore right fielder Brian Maynard then drove home junior left fielder Caleb Gleason with the winning run on a base hit in the sixth. Capone followed with a single that brought around senior first baseman Daniel Marshall with an insurance tally.

In the opener, the Golden Knights closed to within one behind a pair of runs in the seventh when sophomore catcher Scott Hladik smacked a two run double. However, the Wildcats (4-2) answered with three runs in the home half of the frame to put themselves in the driver's seat.

Hladik and Gleason both finished with two hits to pace the Saint Rose attack, while junior third baseman BJ Janney, senior designated hitter Bryan Miller, and senior center fielder Joe Harback had two hits each for Wilmington.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights have a 3:00 pm date against Concordia tomorrow in Lantana. Meanwhile, the Wildcats have an 11:00 am meeting versus Southern New Hampshire in Boca Raton.
