Game Coverage: Live Stats

ALBANY - The College of Saint Rose baseball team has arrived at its 2012 home-opener when the Golden Knights host UMass Lowell today in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader at Bob Bellizzi Field. Game one is set for noon. The two clubs split the regular-season series a year ago.

LAST TIME OUT
Saint Rose ran into a red-hot West Chester team that extended its win streak to 10 games by taking a pair of seven-inning contests from the Golden Knights Tuesday afternoon. The Rams won the opener 7-4 and then came out on top 7-2 in the finale. West Chester jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three innings in game one, before Saint Rose cut its deficit in half with three in the fourth. However, the Golden Knights could not get any closer as West Chester sophomore southpaw John Barr induced a double play to avoid any further damage. Junior catcher #A.J. Capone#, senior shortstop Alex Ferenti and junior third baseman Kyle Charron finished with two hits apiece to lead the Golden Knights offense. In the nightcap, the Rams scored twice in the first, second and third frames to put themselves in the driver's seat. The Golden Knights scored both of their runs in the seventh behind an RBI double from junior designated hitter Caleb Gleason and a sacrifice fly off the bat of sophomore third baseman Jevonte Osterhout. Gleason went 2-for-3 for Saint Rose, while sophomore center fielder Mike Raimo finished 2-for-4 with three RBI to lead West Chester.

2011 vs. UMASS LOWELL (1-1)
The two clubs played a pair of one-run ballgames. The River Hawks took the opener 3-2, but Saint Rose bounced back with a 5-4 triumph in game two.

SAINT ROSE DIAMOND NOTES
The Golden Knights embark on their NE-10 slate this afternoon. The NE-10 has moved to a divisional structure that will solely dictate the conference tournament field. The top-four teams from each division will advance to the conference tournament. Saint Rose is in the Southwest Division. Gleason has hit safely in 10 straight games heading into today, the longest such streak by a Golden Knight this season. As a team, Saint Rose ranks fourth in the league with 31 stolen bases. Ferenti and freshman Ryan Hooker have swiped seven bags apiece to lead the way. The Golden Knights have also belted five home runs thus far.

UMASS LOWELL DIAMOND NOTES
The River Hawks have won five in a row heading into today's league opener. UMass Lowell was selected to finish second in the Northeast Division of the NE-10 Preseason Poll that was conducted by a vote of the league's head coaches. Senior right-hander Dallas Nunes is one of only three players in the conference that have yet to surrender an earned run this year. As a team, the River Hawks pace the NE-10 in walks (83) and on-base percentage (.423); and are second in doubles (30) and slugging percentage (.429).

CANCER AWARENESS DAY
Members of the baseball squad will wear blue shoelaces and their pants up in order to help raise awareness of prostate cancer during tomorrow's doubleheader versus Merrimack. Furthermore, the bases on the baseball diamond will be painted blue respectively in honor of the day. Donation stations will be located at the field and color coordinated balloons will line the Plumeri Sports Complex as well.

UP NEXT
Both clubs return to action tomorrow with a pair of league doubleheaders on tap. Saint Rose stays in Albany to host Merrimack College at noon, while UMass Lowell continues its westward swing to Le Moyne College for a twin-bill at 1:00 pm.
