GOLDEN KNIGHTS SUFFER 3-2 SETBACK AT POST UNIVERSITY

Senior center fielder Nikko Wahl scored both runs for the Golden Knights in today's 3-2 setback at Post University.
Box Score WATERBURY, CT – The College of Saint Rose could not take advantage of four errors by Post University and thus the host Eagles were able to chalk up a 3-2 non-conference victory this afternoon.

Both teams scored a run in the first and another in the second, before Post (5-9) pushed across what held up as the winning run on a wild pitch in the seventh. The Golden Knights (6-6) had arguably their best chance to push across the go-ahead tally in the sixth when sophomore center fielder Brian Maynard was stranded at third.

Each squad benefitted from solid pitching performances. Senior right-handed starter Kris Barone allowed two runs on four hits throughout 4.0 innings and senior southpaw Justin Brooks gave up a run on two hits during the ensuing 3.0 innings for Saint Rose. Senior right-hander Nick Polsinelli then faced just four batters in the eighth.

Meanwhile, junior right-hander John Jeanes surrendered just one earned run on four hits over the distance to chalk up his first victory of the year for Post.

Senior center fielder Nikko Wahl went 1-for-3 and scored both runs, while junior left fielder Caleb Gleason wound up 1-for-4 with an RBI to extend his hitting streak to eight games. Junior right fielder Alex Villar finished 3-for-4 and drove in a run to lead the charge for the Eagles.

Saint Rose took a 1-0 lead in the first when Gleason drove home Wahl with a base hit. The Golden Knights then made it 2-1 in the third after Wahl came across when junior second baseman Kyle Charron reached on a throwing error. The Eagles countered again though as senior shortstop James Wong smacked a leadoff triple and then scored the tying run a batter later on a groundout by junior second baseman Todd Blair.

Saint Rose then left two runners on in the fourth and one in both the fifth and sixth as Jeanes was able to get out of each frame unscathed.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights have a 1:00 pm twin-bill at West Chester next Tuesday while the Eagles are scheduled to host Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference rival Chestnut Hill College in a 12:00 pm doubleheader Saturday.
