Box Score ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose outscored visiting
Northeast-10 Conference rival Adelphi 34-19 throughout the second half en route to a 75-53 victory tonight at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. Saint Rose is now 11-1 at home and has won six of its last seven, including three straight.
Freshman guard
Gabie Polce scored a season-high 23 points and handed out five assists to pace the Golden Knights (15-7/12-6 NE-10). Polce went 8-for-12 from the floor, including 6-for-7 from the arc, and had 15 points by halftime.
Senior guard
Ashley Rath finished with 16 points, five rebounds and four assists; while senior forward
Alison McGrath wound up with 10 points and tied her career-high of nine rebounds in 23 minutes off the bench to help the Saint Rose cause. Furthermore, senior forward
Ali Johnson added seven points and 11 boards.
As for the Panthers (8-14/6-12 NE-10), sophomore forward Jessica Kitrys tossed in 22 points and pulled down 16 rebounds, including 13 from the defensive glass, while sophomore guard Sade Jackson added 12 points.
Saint Rose appeared to be in good shape at the get-go with a 16-10 lead with 13:22 left until the intermission, but Adelphi took off on an 11-2 spurt that put the Panthers up 21-18 midway through the period. Senior guard
Adrianna Gaeta then knocked down a jumper and Rath finished a fast break to put the Golden Knights ahead to stay, 22-21, with 8:44 showing on the clock.
It subsequently remained a two possession game the rest of the way until Gaeta drained a 3-pointer with five seconds remaining that capped an 8-3 spurt and made it 41-34 Saint Rose at halftime.
The Golden Knights then put themselves in the driver's seat with a 15-5 run at the 14:01 point of the second half that transformed a four point, 46-42, cushion into a 61-47 advantage with 6:04 to go. Johnson finished in the paint to ignite the run and Polce capped it with a 3-pointer. Saint Rose eventually boosted its advantage to 23, 75-52, in the final two minutes after sophomore guard Brittany O'Shea canned a trey.
Looking ahead, both squads have a pair of league games on the schedule this Saturday. Saint Rose heads to Pace University for a key 1:30 pm matchup in Pleasantville. Meanwhile, Adelphi returns home to host Assumption. That contest will start at 1:30 pm as well.
