SAINT ROSE UNABLE TO CLEAR FINAL HURDLE

Sophomore forward Dominykas Milka recorded his fourth "double-double" of the year with 19 points and 14 rebounds
Box Score ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose erased an 11-point second half deficit, but came up empty on its final two possessions that allowed visiting Assumption College to walk away with a 60-55 Northeast-10 Conference victory over the Golden Knights at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium tonight.

Saint Rose (5-19/5-15 NE-10) did not help its cause by shooting a season-low 27.4 percent (17-for-62) from the floor. The Golden Knights were furthermore held without a field goal over the final 4:10 as the Greyhounds (11-13/9-11 NE-10) scored the game's final five points to escape after they built an 11-point cushion with 12:53 to play.

Sophomore forward Dominykas Milka recorded his fourth “double-double” of the year on the strength of 19 points and 14 rebounds to lead Saint Rose. Senior forward Brian Hanuschak added 14 points and eight caroms. Additionally, junior guard Andre Pope became the 27th player in school annals to record 1,000 career points after finishing with 10 tonight.

Assumption had three players in twin-figures as well. Senior guard Kevin Donahue ended up with 18 points. Junior forward Ronson Quick was right behind him with 17 points, while junior forward Tim Beinert had a “double-double” of his own via 12 points and 14 rebounds.

The Greyhounds limited the Golden Knights to just 26.5 percent (9-for-34) shooting throughout the opening 20 minutes to take control 33-25 at the break. Assumption buried five deep balls and trailed only when Hanuschak knocked down a pair of free throws to start the contest. Donahue responded with a trey that sparked a 12-0 run to send the Greyhounds off and running.

Saint Rose managed just three field goals over the first 11 minutes of the second period that allowed Assumption to boost its margin to 11. The Greyhounds still led 47-37 with 8:08 left when Milka and Hanuschak took matters into their own hands. Pope fed Milka in the paint and Hanuschak scored six straight points to ignite an impressive 12-4 outburst. Milka finished things off with back-to-back layups to get the Golden Knights within a pair, 51-49, with 4:10 remaining.

It was at that point Saint Rose went cold from the floor. Nevertheless, Milka buried a pair of free throws with 1:14 on the clock to knot things at 55-55. However, Quick provided a dagger on the ensuing possession with a 3-pointer from the left corner and the Golden Knights were unable to convert at the other end down the stretch. Meanwhile, Assumption went 2-for-4 from the stripe to keep its distance.

Looking ahead, both clubs have home conference dates on tap for Saturday. Saint Rose will entertain American International in an unusual 1:30 pm start on 'Senior Day', while the Greyhounds will host Pace University for a 3:30 pm tip-off.
