Sophomore forward Mariah Lesure scored a team-high 11 points during Saturday's 65-40 setback at American International
Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, MA – Holding The College of Saint Rose to a season-low 27.3 shooting percentage (12-of-44), host American International led wire-to-wire for a 65-40 Northeast-10 Conference victory this afternoon.

Sophomore forward Mariah Lesure was the lone Golden Knight (2-6/0-6 NE-10) to reach double-figures behind 11 points.  Senior forward Jessica Walton contributed four points, seven rebounds, and a block; while senior forward Kimberly Van Bourgondien added six points in 12 minutes off the bench.

American International (5-4/3-3 NE-10) generated a substantial advantage in rebounding, 52-30, with freshman center Sydney Tepley hauling in a game-high nine coupled with a like number of points.  Sophomore guard Alyssa Roach registered a game-high 15 points behind 3-of-5 shooting from 3-point range.  A 16-of-18 (89.0 percent) performance from the foul line also furthered the Yellow Jackets effort.

The Golden Knights struggled to find any shooting rhythm in the opening minutes of the contest.  Lesure put in the first bucket for Saint Rose nearly nine minutes in, cutting into the American International lead at 9-4.  Lesure had previously connected on a free throw opportunity after junior guard Brittany O'Shea scored the first point for the Golden Knights at 7:22 into the opening stanza.

Lesure went on to score the first eight of nine points for Saint Rose, helping to close in on the Yellow Jackets.  However, American International controlled the tempo and eventually boosted its lead to 31-16 at the break.  Freshman guard Ebony Easter nailed a trey with seven seconds remaining to close the opening period for the Yellow Jackets.

Most of the same trends carried over into the second half as American International gradually expaned its lead to as much as 32 points.

Despite facing a large deficit, some spirited play allowed Saint Rose to cut into the American International lead with less than four minutes left.  Sophomore guard Gabie Polce converted two free throws to make it a 56-33 game after being fouled on a fast break that was created by a Lesure steal.  The Yellow Jackets' advantage, however, was too large to overcome.

Next on the docket for Saint Rose is a 1:00 pm non-conference date at Bloomfiedl next Saturday, December 15.  As for American International, the Yellow Jackets visit Bridgeport for a non-conference encounter on Wednesday, December 19. Tip-off is set for 6:00 pm.
