Box Score
ALBANY – Senior forward Ronson Quick hit the second of two free throws with 0.6 seconds remaining to snap a tie that allowed
Northeast-10 Conference leader Assumption to walk away with a 59-58 victory against The College of Saint Rose tonight at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.
Saint Rose (5-2/3-2 NE-10) shot 50.0 percent (14-for-28) from the floor on the way to a 14 point, 39-25, lead at the break, but converted at only a 21.4 percent (6-for-28) clip throughout the second stanza. The Golden Knights were furthermore held to only a point during the final 6:53 that allowed the 24th-ranked Greyhounds (8-0/6-0 NE-10) to rally from an 11 point, 57-46, deficit and thus remain the league's lone undefeated team.
Junior guards
Kareem Thomas and
Dan Mundweiler scored 14 points apiece to lead Saint Rose, which fell for the first time in five games at home this year. Also, junior forward
Dominykas Milka recorded his fifth “double-double” of the season behind 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Sophomore guard Terrance Bobb-Jones had 16 points and eight boards to pace Assumption, while senior guard Kevin Donahue and senior forward Tim Beinert wound up with 16 and 10 respectively.
In the final six seconds with the score tied 58-58, Assumption inbounded the ball under its own basket and had it deflected away that left three ticks showing on the clock. The Greyhounds subsequently managed to inbound the ball out of timeout before Quick was fouled in the paint while trying to collect an entry pass from the left corner. His first attempt from the stripe rolled around the rim and out, but he managed to sink the second following a pair of Saint Rose timeouts.
Mundweiler's desperation heave from three-quarters court then fell short as the final buzzer sounded.
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights are back on the road Saturday with a 3:30 pm conference date at American International in Springfield, MA. Meanwhile, Assumption is off until Monday, December 17 when the Greyhounds host league rival Le Moyne at 7:30 pm.
