NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The College of Saint Rose closed out its 2012 campaign with a 4-0 setback at
Northeast-10 Conference rival Merrimack earlier today. The Warriors, who are ranked #15 in this week's
NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II Top-25 Poll, thus clinched the conference regular season title after scoring three times within a 14 minute span in the second half.
Senior forward Franklin Lemus Pena scored two goals and set up the game-winner to lead the Warriors (12-2-2/10-2-1 NE-10) who ran their unbeaten streak to 11 matches.
Freshman keeper
Todd Lawson made three saves in his seventh collegiate start for the Golden Knights. Senior back
Alan McCann, freshman midfielder
Tyler Pomakoy, and sophomore forward
Ercan Kilic accounted for the three shots-on-goal for Saint Rose (1-15/1-12 NE-10).
The game remained scorless until senior back Olof Lindhe tallied what proved to be the game-winner with 31:00 elapsed. Lemus Pena then scored at the 59:23 and 64:50 marks, before freshman midfielder Augusto Silva closed out the scoring with his first career marker with 73:16 gone by.
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights program appears headed in the right direction as 10 student-athletes on this year's roster are underclassmen for second year head coach
Matt Jones whose squad lost five one-goal games this fall.
