SAINT ROSE SUFFERS LATE SETBACK TO SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE

The Golden Knights held Southern Connecticut State at bay until the final two minutes tonight.
Box Score ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose held Southern Connecticut State at bay for all but the final two minutes when the Owls struck for the game's lone goal to walk away with a 1-0 Northeast-10 Conference victory tonight at Sullivan Field within the Plumeri Sports Complex. The affair marked the 2011 league opener for both squads.

Freshman midfielder Dallas Aminzadeh headed home a corner from junior back Franciso Lara with 88:12 elapsed that decided the outcome after Southern Connecticut State probed the Saint Rose zone throughout most of the overcast, humid evening. The Owls (1-1/1-0 NE-10) generated a 14-4 advantage in shots and also produced 11 corner kicks, while yielding only three.

After being frustrated by the Golden Knights' unwillingness to buckle, Southern Connecticut State stepped up the pressure in the final 20 minutes and thus created a pair of outstanding chances. Senior forward Cedric Panzu created space in the box with 18:47 left, but his shot sailed high over the goal. Sophomore forward Doural Scott then ripped a strike from just outside the area 14 minutes later that Saint Rose senior keeper Patrik Ohlsson calmly deflected over the crossbar.

Saint Rose (0-3/0-1 NE-10) had its best chance midway through the second half when a redirect in a flurry of players at the Owls' doorstep somehow managed to find its way over the end line wide of the goal.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights are off until next Tuesday when they head to Worcester, MA to take on conference rival Assumption at 7:00 pm. Meanwhile, Southern Connecticut State returns to the pitch Saturday when the Owls are scheduled to host Bloomfield in a non-league match. Kickoff is set for 4:00 pm
