OLD WESTBURY, NY – The College of Saint Rose women's volleyball team saw its season-long seven-match win streak come to an end this afternoon as host New York Institute of Technology handed the Golden Knights a 3-0 (25-27, 17-25, 17-25) setback at Recreation Hall. The Bears hit a blistering .308 and chalked up 12.5 total blocks, while Saint Rose was held to a .164 hitting percentage and only 5.0 blocks of its own.
The opening set saw 10 ties and four lead changes. The Golden Knights (7-3) grabbed a 22-21 edge following a kill by freshman defensive specialist
Tori Daniels. Saint Rose then avoided a pair of set points after receiving kills from senior outside hitters
Aubrey Bobo and
Sarah Kahrs. However, NYIT answered with a kill of its own and then took advantage of an attack error by the Golden Knights to seal things.
The Bears (4-5) cruised to back-to-back 25-17 victories in sets two and three. NYIT trailed only once in the second set and led from the opening serve of set three.
Bobo and Kahrs did most of the damage offensively for Saint Rose. Bobo recorded a season-high 17 kills and hit .429, while Kahrs added nine kills. Meanwhile, freshman libero
Katy Daniels led the defensive unit with 16 digs.
Sophomore outside hitter Shelby Cable and senior middle blocker Ali Falbo paved the way for the Bears. Cable led all players with 20 kills on the strength of a .486 hitting percentage, while Falbo contributed 12 kills.
The Golden Knights continue their three-match road trip Wednesday night when they head to Caldwell College for a 7:00 pm non-conference match. NYIT hits the road for a 7:00 pm East Coast Conference match at Mercy College on Tuesday.
