ALBANY, NY – The College of Saint Rose women's tennis team won four of six singles matches en route to a 6-3 victory over the Franklin Pierce Ravens.
The Golden Knights got things off to a good start in first singles as junior
Jennifer Crego downed Ravens sophomore Natasha McCarthy 6-4, 6-2. Moving up to third singles from her sixth spot last season, Saint Rose sophomore
Stephanie Wilhelm was able to defeat Franklin Pierce senior Drew Alexander by a 6-3, 6-1 final.
Saint Rose also picked up impressive wins in fourth and fifth singles. At #4, junior
Nicole Terribile earned a win against senior Nikki Chalifoux 6-0, 6-0. In the fifth slot, freshman
Lauren Romine gained a three-set win in her collegiate debut, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2, over junior Melissa Cohen.
In doubles, the Golden Knights gained points in the second and third flight matches as Wilhelm and senior
Erin Reeg topped Alexander and freshman Leslie Rodgers 8-2 while Romine and junior
Sarah Klein defeated Chalifoux and Cohen in a tight match 8-6.
The Golden Knights next take to the courts on Saturday, September 24 at 1 p.m. when they face off against the Saint Anselm Hawks. Up next for the Ravens is their 2011-12 home opener as they take on New Haven at 1 p.m.
