PLEASANTVILLE, NY – Host Pace University scored two runs in the first inning which proved to be enough for senior right-hander Mackenzie King who recorded 15 strikeouts over the distance to hand The College of Saint Rose a 9-0 setback today.
Junior shortstop
Jesse Burba went 2-for-3 and senior center fielder
Ryan Price finished 2-for-4 with a triple to lead the Golden Knights (8-13/2-7 NE-10).
Saint Rose had some chances. However, the Golden Knights stranded runners in scoring position in each of the first three innings and left them loaded in the sixth, which opened the door for the Setters (10-13/4-5 NE-10) who broke apart a 3-0 ballgame with five runs in their half of the frame.
Senior catcher Michael Rodriguez went 2-for-3 with three RBI; while junior second baseman Kyle Turnier, freshman shortstop Steven Martinez and junior left fielder Tyler Collins had three hits apiece to lead the Setters.
Looking ahead, the two teams are scheduled to conclude their Northeast-10 Conference series on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 pm at Bob Bellizzi Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex.
