ALBANY - The College of Saint Rose women's basketball team puts its unblemished home record (3-0) on the line this afternoon when the Golden Knights host Pace University at 1:30 pm at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. The Setters enter the contest as one of only four undefeated teams left in the Northeast-10 Conference.
Scouting Saint Rose (5-1/3-1 NE-10)
The Golden Knights were picked to finish fifth according to the NE-10 Preseason Poll that was voted upon by the league's 16 head coaches. Saint Rose is off to a 5-1 start for the first time since the 2008-09 campaign under head coach
Karen Haag, who picked up her 150th win at the helm of the Golden Knights via a 64-50 triumph at New Haven on November 16. Saint Rose paces the NE-10 in blocks (5.3 bpg) and is fourth in 3FG% (35.8). Senior guard
Ashley Rath recently became the 22nd player in program history to amass 1,000 career points (1,055). She is tossing in 17.2 points per-game, which ranks sixth in the conference. Rath is also hitting at a 41.4 percent (12-for-29) clip from the arc, which is also sixth in the NE-10. Senior guard
Ola Shajuyigbe joins Rath as the lone double-digit scorers on the squad behind 11.0 points per-game. All told, six players are contributing at least 5.0 points per-outing. The Golden Knights are coming off of Wednesday's 57-43 win over host Adelphi. It marked the fourth time this year Saint Rose held an opponent to 50 points or less.
Scouting Pace (5-0/4-0 NE-10)
The Setters are one of four unbeaten teams in the NE-10 at this juncture. Pace is coming off of a 46-42 win at Southern Connecticut State on Wednesday night in New Haven. Senior forward Brittany Shields is the lone player in double-figures with 17.6 points per-game, which ranks fifth in the conference. She is also hauling in a team-high 9.2 rebounds per-outing for the league's fifth-highest average. The Setters are surrendering just 49.8 points per-game having held three of their first five opponents under 50 points.
The Series
Today marks the 41st meeting between Saint Rose and Pace. The Golden Knights own a 23-17 lead in the all-time series and have taken three of the past four meetings. Saint Rose has played the Setters more than any other opponent throughout its 21-year NCAA II era. Both clubs have played well on their home floor. The Golden Knights improved to 17-3 all-time in Albany following a 67-60 overtime triumph last March 1. Meanwhile, Pace has gone 12-5 on its home floor.
Home Sweet Home
The Golden Knights have found great success at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium since its renovation prior to the 2004-05 season. Saint Rose has posted a 70-24 home slate for a .745 winning percentage. Furthermore, the Golden Knights have defeated five ranked opponents on their home floor, including twice last season.
