Box Score

ALBANY – Pace University converted 5-of-7 from the line throughout the final minute to hold off a late charge by The College of Saint Rose to walk away with a 74-71 Northeast-10 Conference victory over the Golden Knights today at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. Each of the Setters' three losses this year has been followed by a win, while Saint Rose is still in search of its first triumph of the 2011-12 season.

Junior guard Andre Pope and senior forward Brian Hanuschak each recorded “double-doubles” to lead the way for the Golden Knights (0-7/0-5 NE-10). Pope finished with 24 points, 11 rebounds and five assists. Meanwhile, Hanuschak wound up with 12 points and 10 boards in a workmanlike 40 minutes of action.

Sophomore guard Denzel Primus-Devonish led four players in twin-figures for Pace (4-3/3-2 NE-10) with 21 points, including a clutch 13-for-15 effort from the stripe. Senior guard Kevin Clark chipped in 13 points in 15 minutes of reserve action as well.

The Setters took a 10 point lead at the break after Clark was fouled on a 3-point try at the buzzer. He promptly buried all three free throws to put Pace up 40-30. However, Saint Rose stormed out of the locker room with an 8-2 burst to cut its deficit to four, 42-38. Hanuschak and sophomore forward Dominykas Milka finished things off with back-to-back layups.

Primus-Devonish silenced the run with a jumper then Pace managed to boost its lead back to 11 twice over the next seven minutes. Senior guard Adrian Mills knocked down a trey to make it a 59-48 affair with 7:36 to go and thus provide the Setters with some breathing room.

The Golden Knights showed their resolve by embarking on a 15-6 jaunt to pull to within a pair, 65-63, the closest Saint Rose had been since the 10:03 mark of the first half. Pope took things into his own hands with six straight points to cap the run, including a conventional 3-point play with 1:27 on the clock.

Sophomore guard Kai Smith buried a 'three' on the next possession for Pace. Pope came right back with one of his own from the top of the key to keep it a one possession affair. It was at that point the Setters took control by making the most of their opportunities from the foul line in the waning moments. Pope's desperation heave from midcourt was wide right as the final buzzer sounded.

Both teams have a pair of 7:30 league games on the docket Tuesday night. The Golden Knights head to Assumption College, while Pace returns home to host Adelphi University.
