ALBANY –The College of Saint Rose shot 50.0 percent (30-for60) from the floor and forced visiting Post University into 31.7 percent (20-for-63) shooting and 19 turnovers on the way to an 80-53 victory this afternoon during the second day of action at its own tip-off tournament.
Senior forward
Alison McGrath tossed in 18 of her career-high 21 points in the second half and also hauled in a career-best eight rebounds to lead the Golden Knights (2-0). Meanwhile, senior guard
Ashley Rath went 8-for14 from the floor on the way to 18 points. Rath also handed out five assists and senior forward
Ali Johnson recorded 13 points, on 6-for-7 shooting, and five boards to help the cause.
Junior guards Casey Brooks and Aubrey Latham had nine points apiece and pulled down a collective 18 rebounds to lead Post (1-1).
The Golden Knights took a 35-24 lead at the break and then opened the second stanza with a 15-7 run that put them in control by 19, 50-31, with 14:39 to play. McGrath nailed a jumper off of one of six assists from senior guard
Adrianna Gaeta and Rath buried a 3-pointer from another Gaeta feed to cap the spurt. Saint Rose eventually boosted its advantage to 31 points, 74-43, after Johnson finished in the paint with 5:13 remaining.
In today's first game, Concordia upended Queens 81-61. Senior forward and Albany native Chanessa Blakemore celebrated her homecoming by shooting 10-for-12 from the floor on the way to 23 points to go along with 15 rebounds for the Clippers (1-1). Sophomore center Caitlin Hopkins had 13 points and eight boards for Queens (0-2).
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights open the 2011-12
Northeast-10 Conference portion of their schedule Wednesday with a 5:30 pm encounter at New Haven. Meanwhile, Post has a 6:00 pm home date with Georgian Court that evening.
