ALBANY - The College of Saint Rose men's soccer team returns to action tomorrow on short rest. The Golden Knights (0-9-0) are set to welcome Concordia College (2-6-0) for a non-league match just 48 hours after squaring off against Southern New Hampshire University. Kickoff is set for 6:30 pm at Sullivan Field.
LAST MEETING (9/4/10)
Saint Rose got its 2010 campaign off on a high note with a 1-0 non-conference victory versus Concordia in the season-opener for both squads last September 4. Senior midfielder
Liam Barrett provided the game-winner with five minutes remaining in regulation. Barrett gathered a ball from 30-yards out at the center of the field and let go a volley that sailed just under the left-side crossbar. The Golden Knights then wound the clock down in what had been a fairly evenly played match until that juncture. Saint Rose generated a 14-9 shot advantage, including a 9-5 differential of on-target threats, and engineered five corner kicks, while yielding only three. Senior keeper
Patrik Ohlsson made five saves to preserve the clean sheet. Sophomore keeper Marco DiNello came up with seven saves for the Clippers.
SCOUTING SAINT ROSE (0-9-0)
The Golden Knights are coming off of a 3-0 setback versus Southern New Hampshire on Saturday afternoon. Saint Rose is still in search of its first win of the 2011 campaign. Five of its nine losses have come by a mere one goal. The last victory for the Golden Knights came against none other than today's opponent in last year's season-opener.
Junior midfielder
Zak Duguay and sophomore back
Alan McGrath have each provided one strike this year for the Golden Knights. Meanwhile, Ohlsson has collected 35 saves having playing all but 14:16 in goal. Ohlsson ranks fifth in the NE-10 in saves.
SCOUTING CONCORDIA (2-6-0)
The Clippers suffered an 8-1 setback versus Bloomfield on Saturday. Concordia has gone 2-2 after dropping its first four matches of the 2011 campaign. Sophomore forward Ekene Okereke represents the top scoring threat for the Clippers. He has seven points on three goals and one assist. Meanwhile, senior forwards Richard Heredia and David Mero each have a pair of strikes. Freshman keeper Oscar Acosta-Mendez has chalked up 37 saves throughout seven starts and has one shutout on the year.
UP NEXT
Saint Rose has a date with Le Moyne College on Wednesday night as the two clubs compete in the 'Upstate Challenge'. Kickoff is set for 6:30 pm at Sullivan Field. Concordia is idle until Thursday when the Clippers head to West Chester for a 4:00 pm non-league match.
