SAINT ROSE WORKS OVERTIME TO COLLECT A VICTORY FOR THE SECOND TIME IN A WEEK

Sophomore guard Andre Pope scored 22 points to help lead the Golden Knights to today's 101-93 OT victory versus Saint Anselm.
ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose used overtime for the second consecutive Saturday to come up with its third straight victory behind a 101-93 triumph against visiting Northeast-10 Conference rival Saint Anselm this afternoon.

The Golden Knights (12-3/8-3 NE-10) placed four players in double-figures scoring for the seventh time on the season to chalk up their sixth win in the last eight outings. In the process, they snapped the Hawks (12-3/8-3 NE-10) three-game win streak. Saint Anselm had arrived in Albany in second place in the 16-team NE-10.

Saint Rose outscored its guests 19-11 throughout the extra session after the Hawks had come from seven down with 6:45 remaining in regulation.

Junior guard Shea Bromirski scored nine of his team-leading 26 points in OT by knocking down a trey and going 6-for-6 from the foul line during the final 46 seconds. Sophomore guard Andre Pope finished with 22 points, six rebounds and four assists; while junior guard Rob Gutierrez tossed in 19 points to pace Saint Rose.

The overtime was tied on two occasions throughout the initial 2:30, before Saint Anselm took its final lead, 90-89, when senior guard Thomas Baudinet knocked down a jumper with 1:43 remaining. Gutierrez then nailed a jumper at the other end and the Hawks came up empty, before Bromirski drained his 3-pointer to put the Golden Knights in control 94-90.

Saint Anselm outscored Saint Rose 17-10 throughout the final 6:45 of the second half to force the extra five minutes. Freshman guard Allen Harris finished inside with 30 seconds remaining that afforded the game its 12th tie. The Golden Knights then had a chance out of a timeout to set up a play, but Bromirski's runner rolled out.

The Golden Knights wound up shooting better than 50.0 percent from the floor for the fourth time on the year. They canned 50.7 percent (34-for-67) of their opportunities, including 71.4 percent (5-for-7) in overtime.

Junior forward Brian Hanuschak rounded out four double-figure scorers with 15 points and eight rebounds for Saint Rose. Fellow junior forward Sheldon Griffin pulled down a season-high 11 boards.

Baudinet, the leading scorer in the NE-10, tossed in 35 points and pulled down eight rebounds during the entire 45 minutes to lead the Hawks. Harris wound up with 28 points and nine boards.

Looking ahead, both clubs have 7:30 pm conference dates on their dockets for Wednesday. The Golden Knights are scheduled to host Merrimack, while the Hawks have a meeting at Southern Connecticut State in New Haven.
