SAINT ROSE SLUGGISH DOWN THE STRETCH IN 66-59 LOSS AT SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE

Junior guard Ashley Rath led all players with 25 points on the strength of five, 3-pointers
MANCHESTER, NH – The College of Saint Rose women's basketball team was held to just three field goals over the last 8:25 that allowed host Southern New Hampshire University to take a 66-59 Northeast-10 Conference victory over the Golden Knights this afternoon. The game was played today after being wiped out due to yesterday's snowstorm.

Saint Rose (10-4/6-4 NE-10) found itself in treacherous territory late in the first half when sophomore forward Sloane Sorrell's layup gave the Penmen their largest lead of the game, 27-18, with 5:43 until intermission. However, junior Adrianna Gaeta sparked a 17-4 run with a 3-pointer and the Golden Knights grabbed a 35-31 lead at the break.

Saint Rose maintained at least a two point cushion throughout the first 11 minutes of the second half. The Golden Knights still led, 52-49, with 8:25 to go following a layup by junior forward Ali Johnson. It was at that point things began to unravel on the offensive end. Saint Rose went 3-for-12 from the floor the rest of the way and Southern New Hampshire outscored the Golden Knights 17-7 over that span to win its fourth straight game.

The Penmen (7-7/5-5 NE-10) converted 53.2 percent of their opportunities from the field and also buried 15-of-22 attempts from the stripe to help their cause. Meanwhile, Saint Rose suffered its third-worst shooting effort of the year, hitting just 36.5 percent (23-for-63) of its attempts and stepping to the line just six times (4-for-6), once in the second half (0-for-1).

Junior guards Ashley Rath and Ola Shajuyigbe combined for 37 points and were the lone players in twin-figures for the Golden Knights. Rath hit 5-of-10 shots from the arc en route to a game-high 25 points. Meanwhile, Shajuyigbe finished with 12 points, four steals and three rebounds.

Also for Saint Rose, senior guard Lynsey Timbrouck became one of only three players in school annals to eclipse 500 career assists. Timbrouck wound up with 11 helpers this afternoon and now has 503 for her career.

Julia Houghtaling, a graduate student, registered a “double-double” behind 21 points and 14 rebounds to pace Southern New Hampshire. Sorrell finished one rebound shy of that combination with 18 points and nine boards.

The Golden Knights have little time to prepare for their next league date as Saint Anselm College arrives in Albany for a Saturday matinee. Tip-off is set for 1:30 pm as part of an NE-10 doubleheader. The Penmen also return to action Saturday when they head to Le Moyne College for a 1:00 pm start.
