SAINT ROSE FALLS 3-1 AT ADELPHI

Senior middle hitter Kelly Ryan finished with 10 kills and hit .333 in a 3-1 loss at Adelphi
GARDEN CITY, NY – The College of Saint Rose women's volleyball team dug itself a 2-0 hole and host Adelphi University went on to defeat the Golden Knights 3-1 (13-25, 16-25, 25-22, 21-25) in a Northeast-10 Conference match today at the Center for Recreation and Sport. The Panthers have now won five straight while remaining unbeaten in league action. Saint Rose has dropped two in a row and is still winless on the road this season.

Four players came up with double-digit dig totals for the Golden Knights (3-10/1-2 NE-10). Freshman defensive specialist Christina Strezenec led the Saint Rose defensive unit with 24 digs. Junior outside hitter Sarah Kahrs finished with 13 digs and seven kills, while sophomore defensive specialists Laura Falkowitz and Nikki Robitaille added 10 digs apiece.

Sophomore outside hitter Kayleigh Quinn paced the front row with 12 kills, while senior middle hitter Kelly Ryan contributed 10 kills and hit .333 for the Golden Knights.

Adelphi (7-5/3-0 NE-10) senior outside hitter Hilary Pavels was one of four Panthers in double-figures in kills. Pavels wound up with 16 kills and 12 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Chelsea Overholt registered 13 kills and four digs, while senior defensive specialist Heather Mau led all players with 27 digs.

Down 2-0, Saint Rose never trailed in the third set although it was never able to generate more than a four-point advantage. The Golden Knights, who were aided by a .300 hitting percentage throughout the set, received a kill by Ryan and a service ace from Robitaille to punctuate the frame.

In the fourth set, Overholt broke a 21-21 tie with a kill and Adelphi took advantage of two Saint Rose attack errors down the stretch and added two service aces of its own to come away with the match-sealing 25-21 triumph.

The Golden Knights have five days to prepare for a five-match homestand that begins Friday night when they host Merrimack College at 7:00 pm at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. The Panthers will also put their five-match win streak on the line Friday night when they host Saint Anselm College at 7:00 pm.
