WEST HAVEN, CT – The College of Saint Rose women's volleyball team took the opening set 29-27, but the University of New Haven swept the next three en route to a 3-1 (29-27, 21-25, 17-25, 21-25) triumph over the Golden Knights today at Charger Gymnasium. It marked the seventh straight victory for the defending Northeast-10 Conference Champion Chargers, while Saint Rose was unable to come up with its first road win of the year.
Senior middle hitter
Kelly Ryan and sophomore outside hitter
Kayleigh Quinn recorded 10 kills apiece to lead the Golden Knights (3-9/1-1 NE-10). Quinn also picked up six digs, while Ryan had a pair of blocks.
Freshman defensive specialist
Christina Strezenec and junior outside hitter
Sarah Kahrs each hit double-digits in digs to pace the Saint Rose defense. Strezenec wound up with 15 digs, while Kahrs added 12 digs and five kills.
Additionally, junior setter
Theresa Staulo passed out 27 assists to go along with six digs, five blocks and three kills.
New Haven played terrific in the back row as four players found double-figures in digs. Junior libero Heather Ladao led all players with 19 digs. Meanwhile, senior outside hitter Sara Malmlov paced the offense behind 22 kills.
Saint Rose has another tough NE-10 road match at 1:00 pm tomorrow when the Golden Knights head to Adelphi University. The Chargers are off until Wednesday when they travel to Assumption College for a 7:00 pm league match.
