GARDEN CITY, NY – Host Adelphi University scored three answered runs to take the first game 5-2, and then came up with a 3-0 “non-league” victory in the nightcap against The College of Saint Rose in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader this afternoon. The Panthers (23-7/9-3 NE-10) have now won nine of their last 10.
Junior outfielder
Garret Keenan had a base hit in the opener and doubled in the finale to run his hit streak to six games for the Golden Knights (9-23/4-11 NE-10).
Furthermore, senior designated hitter
Paul Partridge belted a two-run homer in the second inning and also doubled to lead the Saint Rose charge in the first game. Senior left fielder
Derek Marshall and sophomore second baseman
Michael Carbone each doubled as well.
After Partridge's shot made it 2-0 Saint Rose, the Panthers answered with two runs of their own in the home half and then another pair in the fourth and one more in the eighth. Adelphi took advantage of a pair of Saint Rose miscues in the second and then senior first baseman Anthony Anzalone homered to make it 4-2 in the fourth, before junior center fielder Trevor Thorstensen led off the eighth with a round tripper.
Thorstensen and sophomore catcher T.J. Humrich both wound up 3-for-4 to lead the Adelphi attack. Meanwhile, senior left-hander Mike Scudero surrendered eight hits and fanned nine over the distance to run his record to 2-0 on the year.
In the seven inning finale, Adelphi scored once in the third and twice in the fifth as Saint Rose stranded five runners in scoring position throughout the ballgame. Sophomore left fielder
Nick Alexandrovich reached base three times with a pair of base hits and a walk for the Golden Knights. Senior designated hitter Justin Ciamillo had a two-run homer in the fifth for Adelphi.
Up next, the Golden Knights return home to close out their season series with Adelphi Wednesday. Game time is scheduled for 3:30 pm at Bob Bellizzi Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. Meanwhile, the Panthers first have a 3:30 pm conference date at Assumption on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 3:30 pm in Worcester, MA.
