GOLDEN KNIGHTS SET TO OPEN BOB BELLIZZI FIELD AT THE PLUMERI SPORTS COMPLEX ON SATURDAY

The Saint Rose baseball team will open Bob Bellizzi Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex on Saturday.
ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose will make its debut at Bob Bellizzi Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex on Saturday, March 20 when the Golden Knights are scheduled to host Northeast-10 Conference rival Saint Anselm in a noon doubleheader.

There will be an 11:45 am Opening Ceremony to commemorate this exciting occasion. Members of the Bellizzi Family along with several other dignitaries are expected to be on hand to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. There will also be a baseball alumni gathering beginning at 10:45 am.

The event will further honor the memory of the iconic Bob Bellizzi, the founder and only coach the Saint Rose baseball program had known upon his passing in 2006 after a long and courageous battle against cancer.

Bellizzi won nearly 800 games throughout his 28-year tenure inside the Saint Rose dugout. He was listed among the top-20 active coaches at the NCAA Division II level in terms of both victories and winning percentage (778-458-2/.629) at the time of his passing. Bellizzi furthermore guided the Golden Knights to both the 1990 NAIA and the 2000 NCAA II World Series, in addition to four NCAA Tournaments between 1994 and 2000. He was twice named the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Northeast Region Coach of the Year and the annual Northeast-10 Conference Coach of the Year Award now bears his name.
