SAINT ROSE DROPS FIRST TWO GAMES ON FLORIDA SWING

Senior catcher John Cole went 2-for-4 with a run scored in today's setback to Concordia.
PALM BEACH, FL – The College of Saint Rose dropped the first two games of its annual spring break trek through Florida with a 4-2 loss to Concordia and an 8-2 setback to Mercyhurst today. Yesterday's scheduled opener with Mercyhurst was cancelled due to weather.

Concordia (2-0) scored three runs in the first via a pair of doubles and a couple of RBI base hits. The Golden Knights (1-5) got two back in the sixth when senior shortstop Zachary Halloran drove home junior third baseman Grant Smith and senior catcher John Cole with a two-run single. However, the Clippers tacked on another run in the eighth to account for the final score.

Halloran finished 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI, while Cole wound up 2-for-4 to lead Saint Rose.

In tonight's match up with Mercyhurst (3-3), the Lakers pounded out 16 hits and jumped out to a 4-0 lead with three runs in the first and another in the second, before breaking it open with two in the fourth and another pair in the sixth. Saint Rose managed to push across a run in the third and another in the sixth.

Freshman outfielder Scott Hladik finished 2-for-3 with a pair of base hits and a walk, while senior catcher Derek Marshall doubled and scored a run for the Golden Knights.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose has an 11:00 am game against Wilmington in Boca Raton and a 7:00 pm date with Mercyhurst in Palm Beach tomorrow.
