HOT SHOOTING HELPS PROPEL GOLDEN KNIGHTS OVER NEW HAVEN

Junior guard Rob Gutierrez led four players in double-figures with 22 points
WEST HAVEN, CT – The College of Saint Rose men's basketball team shot a season-high 54.2 percent (32-for-59) from the floor en route to an 81-69 Northeast-10 Conference victory at the University of New Haven tonight. The Golden Knights picked up their first road victory of the year and had four players in double-figures scoring for the fifth time in seven games.

Junior guard Rob Gutierrez paved the way for Saint Rose, which is receiving votes in the NABC Division II Coaches Poll for the second straight week. Gutierrez wound up with 22 points and seven boards to lead a balanced attack. Junior guard Shea Bromirski finished with 16 points, while freshman forward Dominykas Milka and junior forward Sheldon Griffin added 12 and 10 points.

Freshman forward Krystian Foriest and sophomore guard Sean Harris led the Chargers, who have now dropped five in a row. Foriest was an efficient 9-of-11 from the floor to finish with 22 points, while Harris ended up with 15 points and four assists.

Both clubs spent the first six minutes finding their rhythm. At the 14:15 mark, however, the Golden Knights (6-1/3-1 NE-10) embarked on a 19-7 run that transformed a three point, 10-7 lead into a commanding 29-14 edge following a layup by Griffin. The outburst consumed 10 minutes of the game clock and Saint Rose maintained a 14-point, 38-24 margin at the break.

Saint Rose boosted its advantage to 20 within the first six minutes of the second half to put itself in the driver's seat. Bromirski completed a conventional three-point play that ignited a 9-0 jaunt. Gutierrez and sophomore guard Andre Pope then converted back-to-back layups and Griffin knocked down a pair of free throws to make it a 54-34 ballgame with 14:22 to play.

New Haven managed to cut its deficit to single-digits only once the rest of the way. The Golden Knights helped their cause by draining 7-of-11 free throw attempts over the final two minutes while generating 21 points off 19 turnovers by the Chargers in the contest.

Looking ahead, both teams are scheduled to host a pair of NE-10 games this Saturday. Saint Rose welcomes Southern Connecticut State University to Albany for a 3:30 pm matinee, while the Chargers host Pace University at 3:30 pm in West Haven.
