SAINT ROSE RALLIES LATE TO GET PAST BLOOMFIELD

Junior guard Adrianna Gaeta helped Saint Rose orchestrate a 10-0 run with a pair of buckets in a 63-58 triumph
BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The College of Saint Rose women's basketball team outscored host Bloomfield College 15-5 over the last five and a half minutes to walk away with a 63-58 non-conference victory this afternoon. The Golden Knights thus improved to 3-0 in non-league games this season and defeated the Lady Deacons for the sixth time in seven meetings.

Junior guard Ashley Rath and senior guard Lynsey Timbrouck led Saint Rose in scoring. Rath wound up with 17 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the floor, while Timbrouck lit up the box score with 16 points, nine rebounds and five assists.

Bloomfield (1-2) also had a pair of players reach double-figures in scoring. Freshman guard Ivettlis Castro finished with 15 points, while junior guard Vanessa Lamison had a “double-double” with 12 points and 11 boards to go with six steals.

Saint Rose (3-1) found itself down five, 53-48, with 5:34 left when junior guard Adrianna Gaeta keyed a 10-0 spurt with a jumper from the left wing. Following a pair of free throws by junior forward Ali Johnson, Gaeta buried another from virtually the same spot and Rath knocked down a long 3-pointer that put the Golden Knights up four, 57-53. Timbrouck went 1-from-2 from the stripe to complete the final push.

Saint Rose took care of business on the defensive end and at the stripe down the stretch to seal things. The Golden Knights limited Bloomfield to just one field goal, a Castro 3-pointer, throughout the final five and a half minutes. Meanwhile, Saint Rose converted 8-of-12 opportunities from the charity stripe to maintain its cushion.

In a contest that was marred by 48 fouls and three disqualifications, Saint Rose overcame 25 turnovers by outscoring the Lady Deacons 24-13 at the foul line where they shot 75.0 percent (18-for-24) throughout the final 20 minutes. The Golden Knights also forced 24 miscues themselves and held Bloomfield to just 21.4 percent (3-for-14) shooting from long range.

Saint Rose returns to its Northeast-10 Conference schedule Tuesday night when the Golden Knights host Adelphi University at 5:30 pm as part of a league doubleheader at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. Meanwhile, Bloomfield has eight days to prepare for a 1:00 pm non-league affair at Dowling College.
