LINCOLN, PA – The College of Saint Rose closed out the final 5:47 of the first half on a 16-2 run and never looked back en route to an 85-48 victory versus Post University in the opening round of the James A. Richardson Tip-Off Tournament this evening at Lincoln University. The game, originally scheduled for 6:00 pm, was delayed some 90 minutes due to the late arrival of the officials.
Regardless, the aforementioned run turned an 18-18 deadlock into a 34-20 Saint Rose lead at the break. Junior guard
Ashley Rath scored nine points to lead the charge. Rath converted a layup to ignite the spurt and fellow junior guard
Ola Shajuyigbe capped it with a jumper.
The Golden Knights (1-0) picked up right where they off at the onset of the second half with a 16-3 spurt that put them in control by 27, 50-23, after senior guard
Lynsey Timbrouck scored on a layup.
Timbrouck led a balanced Saint Rose attack with a game-high 17 points to go with six assists, while Rath finished with 16 points. Junior guard
Adrianna Gaeta tied her career-high with nine points in 16 minutes off the bench. Sophomore forward
Emily Trapp had nine points as well, while Shajuyigbe and junior forward
Jessica Walton finished with eight apiece to help the Golden Knights win their fifth consecutive season-opener.
Sophomore guard Casey Brooks led Post (0-1) with 14 points.
Looking ahead, Saint Rose will take on the host Lions tomorrow at 3:00 pm, before opening up at home Wednesday for a 5:30 pm tilt with Northeast-10 Conference rival Assumption.
