ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose women's volleyball team rallied from a 1-0 deficit, but visiting Southern New Hampshire University took the final two sets to take a 3-1 (20-25, 26-24, 19-25, 21-25) Northeast-10 Conference victory over the Golden Knights tonight at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. The Penmen (10-10/6-5 NE-10) snapped a three-match skid as two players reached double-figures in kills, while Saint Rose has now suffered three straight defeats.
The Golden Knights (6-18/3-9 NE-10) bounced back from a 1-0 hole by taking the second set 26-24 after Southern New Hampshire won the opener 25-20. Saint Rose then managed only six kills in the third set and the Penmen capitalized off of that momentum by capturing the third and fourth sets by respective scores of 25-19 and 25-21.
Senior
Kelly Ryan and sophomore outside hitter
Kayleigh Quinn each recorded impressive hitting percentages to lead the Golden Knights. Ryan hit .389 via seven kills without an error throughout 18 swings. She furthermore recorded four blocks to move into 10th place all-time in school annals with 304 for her career. Meanwhile, Quinn chalked up a .385 hitting percentage behind seven kills and a mere two errors in 13 attempts.
Additionally, junior outside hitter
Sarah Kahrs filled up the box score with eight digs, five aces and six kills.
Southern New Hampshire benefitted from the outstanding play of senior middle hitter Stephanie Dluginski. Dluginski hit a blazing .414 with a match-high 15 kills to go along with eight digs. Freshman outside hitter Megan Lesczynski put up 13 kills and sophomore setter Lauren Lorenz had a solid all-around performance with 35 assists, eight digs, six kills and four aces.
Both clubs return to action tomorrow with a pair of NE-10 matches on the schedule. Saint Rose hosts Franklin Pierce in its final home match of the 2010 slate, while the Penmen head to Le Moyne for a noon start in Syracuse.
