MANCHESTER, NH – The College of Saint Rose rallied in both the fourth and fifth sets only to fall short 3-2 (20-25, 25-20, 25-20, 24-26, 15-12) to host Saint Anselm in a Northeast-10 Conference match tonight. The contest was decided by a mere six total points after the Golden Knights (5-15/2-6 NE-10) scored three answered points in the fourth game that deadlocked the match at 2-2.
They then went on a 5-1 tear that cut a 13-7 Saint Anselm (2-11/1-7 NE-10) advantage into a 14-12 lead in the fifth game, before the Hawks scored the final point that left Saint Rose standing at 0-4 in five-match contests this fall.
Senior middle hitter
Kelly Ryan registered an impressive .444 attack percentage via 13 kills and just one attack error throughout 27 swings to lead the Golden Knights. Junior outside hitter
Sarah Kahrs had a match-high 22 kills that generated a .364 attack percentage as she misfired only twice on 55 attack attempts. Furthermore, junior setter
Theresa Staulo handed out 43 assists, while freshman defensive specialist
Christina Strezenec came up with 18 digs.
Kahrs also had 13 digs to her credit, while Ryan finished with five blocks.
For Saint Anselm, sophomore middle hitter Samantha Elliott led four players in double figures with 15 kills. Freshman middle hitter Kyla Gustavson registered a “double-double” behind 11 kills and 12 digs, while junior setter Rachel Flaherty distributed 46 assists.
Up ahead, both teams have league dates on tap for tomorrow. The Golden Knights will travel some 175 miles northwest throughout New England for a 3:30 pm meeting at Saint Michael's in Colchester, VT. Meanwhile, the Hawks are scheduled to entertain Le Moyne at noon.
