GOLDEN KNIGHTS SPLIT DUAL MEET AT BENTLEY

Sophomore Vadim Yafayev anchored the victorious 200 free relay team and also won two indvidual events at Bentley today.
WALTHAM, MA – The College of Saint Rose men's and women's swimming and diving teams split a dual meet at Bentley University this afternoon. The women's team came away with a 137-102 victory, while the men's squad suffered a 125-109 loss. Both teams now have identical 4-2 dual meet records on the year.

Freshman Caitlin Brauer set a school record with a winning time of 2:26.45 in the 200-yard breaststroke and also touched first in the 200 individual medley with a 2:13.72 clocking to lead the women's contingent. Brauer furthermore anchored the winning 200 free relay quartet that went 1:43.42. She was preceded in the race by sophomore Caitlin Peterson, freshman Erin Ludeke, and junior Alicia Robinson.

Peterson also won the 500 freestyle in 5:19.90, while Robinson had a winning time of 26.79 for the 50 free. Junior Christine Lockwood, freshman Naomi Woodcock, and sophomore Stephanie Schuyler each won a race as well. Schuyler swam the 200 backstroke in 2:16.35; Woodcock completed the 100 free in 57.81, and Lockwood hit the wall with a time of 11:29.18 for the 1,000 free.

In the men's competition, sophomore Vadim Yafayev swam the final leg for the winning 200 free relay team that finished in 1:31.53. Yafayev also won both the 200 IM and the 200 breaststroke with respective times of 2:01.28 and 2:19.83. Freshman Joseph Krok also had a pair of victories for the Golden Knights. He swam the 200 free in 1:50.62 and finished the 500 in 5:00.98.

Sophomore Bryan Shaver and junior Jonathan Kruger joined Yafayev on the victorious 200 free relay squad; as did freshman Michael Vogelsang. Kruger also had a winning performance of 49.98 in the 100 free, while Shaver swam the 1,000 free in a winning time of 10:28.68. Finally, junior Matt Micha touched first with a 2:02.21 clocking in the 200 fly.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose will close out the dual meet portion of its 2009-10 schedule next weekend. The Golden Knights will head to Long Island to face Adelphi on Saturday, and return home to host Skidmore on Sunday at The Albany Academies. Both meets are scheduled to get underway at 1:00 pm. The Northeast-10 Conference Championships are then set for February 5-7 at Southern Connecticut State in New Haven. Meanwhile, Bentley visits Babson for a 6:00 pm dual meet Wednesday in Wellesley, MA.
