ROTTERDAM – The College of Saint Rose softball team dropped a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader versus league-leader Le Moyne College this evening at Esposito Field. The Dolphins (21-7/9-1 NE-10) limited the Golden Knights (6-18/2-12 NE-10) to one hit to take game one 6-0 and put up four runs throughout the final three innings en route to a 7-1 decision in game two.
Le Moyne senior right-hander Jennifer Farrelly fired a complete game one-hitter in the opener, facing four batters over the minimum and fanning three along the way. Farrelly received plenty of support via a pair of solo shots from junior second baseman Kelly Schweikert and freshman first baseman Leah Ford.
Farrelly helped her own cause by going 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI double and a run, while Schweikert and freshman designated hitter Kelcie Cashel each went 2-for-2 and combined to score three runs. Saint Rose senior left fielder
Kerry Monahan provided the lone hit for the Golden Knights with a single in the second inning.
In the nightcap, Saint Rose cut a 2-0 deficit in half in the bottom of the first when sophomore right fielder
Megan Rios tripled to get things going. Two batters later, junior catcher
Amanda Morano singled up the middle to make it a 2-1 ballgame.
However, Le Moyne senior third baseman Caitlin O'Neill went deep over the left center field wall in the top of the third and Farrelly scored on an error in the fifth. Freshman shortstop Barbara Shea then delivered a two-run single in the sixth to give the Dolphins a 6-1 cushion.
Sophomore right-hander Jennifer Vanacore surrendered one run on three hits while fanning eight in 5.0 innings of work to pick up her 10th victory of the season for the Dolphins. Sophomore right-hander Katelyn Fowler tossed two innings of one-hit ball in relief.
Rios went 2-for-3 and scored the lone run for the Golden Knights. Additionally, Morano and senior shortstop
Ashley Anderson each went 1-for-3. Sophomore right fielder Amanda Daum finished 2-for-3, Farrelly belted her team-leading fifth homer of the year, while Shea and O'Neill drove in two runs apiece to lead the Dolphins attack.
Saint Rose hits the road next week for a pair of NE-10 doubleheaders beginning Tuesday with a 3:30 pm road match-up at Saint Michael's College. Meanwhile, Le Moyne is scheduled to host Saint Michael's Saturday for a league twin-bill beginning at 12:00 pm.
