WEST HAVEN, CT – The College of Saint Rose took advantage of six New Haven errors en route to a 6-3 Northeast-10 Conference road victory today. The Golden Knights (10-17/6-7 NE-10) have now won three of their last four, after dropping their previous four games.
Sophomore third baseman
Grant Smith went 4-for-4 to raise his batting average to a team leading .322 on the year and sophomore shortstop
Ryan Burke finished 2-for-3 with a double to pace the Saint Rose attack. Also senior right-hander Daniel O'Leary hurled 1.1 innings of one hit ball to collect his fourth save of the season.
Freshman center fielder Ryan Brockett, senior infielder Evan Okon, freshman first baseman Cory Carr, and senior shortstop Kyle Bombace had two hits apiece for the Chargers (9-12/5-8 NE-10) who left 13 runners on base.
The Golden Knights went up 1-0 in the first via an RBI groundout by junior right fielder
Jake Perez and then made it 2-0 in the third when junior catcher
Derek Marshall reached on a error, went to second on a wild pitch, was sacrificed to third, and came across on a fielder's choice.
Saint Rose took a 3-1 lead in the fifth after Burke stroked a leadoff double to center and then eventually scored courtesy of two more wild pitches. The Golden Knights then broke it open in the sixth when they pushed across three runs on only one hit.
Up next, the Golden Knights have a 3:30 pm non-league game against St. Joseph (VT) tomorrow at Bleecker Stadium. Meanwhile, the Chargers have Wednesday off before concluding their two-game series at Saint Rose on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
