SPRINGFIELD, MA – Host American International pushed across two unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh to complete a sweep of The College of Saint Rose in Northeast-10 Conference softball action this afternoon. The Yellow Jackets (11-11/3-5 NE-10) took the finale 2-1 after grabbing the opener 2-0.
Three consecutive singles coupled with a Saint Rose (6-12/2-6 NE-10) error accounted for the first run in the seventh, while a sacrifice fly off the bat off of junior second baseman Michelle Franey brought across the game-winner.
Junior catcher
Amanda Morano put the Golden Knights up 1-0 in the sixth with an RBI double that scored freshman center fielder
Courtney Galuski with what proved to be their lone run.
Saint Rose sophomore right-hander
Nicole Traylor fanned three and allowed only a run on seven hits in 6.0-plus innings of work in just her third start of the year. Senior shortstop Deanna Zanetti and senior designated player/pitcher Ashley Deegan had two hits each for the Yellow Jackets.
In the opener, American International freshman right-hander Kristen Dolan allowed a mere two hits and fanned nine without issuing a walk over the distance to pick up the victory. Freshman designated player Sarah Calgreen went 3-for-3 and Zanetti had a solo home run in the first to pace the offense. For Saint Rose, senior shortstop
Ashley Anderson stroked a one out double in the seventh.
Both teams have conference doubleheaders on tap for noon Saturday. The Golden Knights will host Merrimack, while the Yellow Jackets are scheduled to visit Assumption College in Worcester, MA.
