GOLDEN KNIGHTS RUN WIN STREAK TO THREE GAMES

Sophomore forward Brian Hanuschak had 22 points to lead the Golden Knights past Southern Connecticut State today.
NEW HAVEN – The College of Saint Rose ran its win streak to three games behind a 65-50 victory this afternoon at Northeast-10 Conference rival Southern Connecticut State. The Golden Knights generated 22 points off of 20 turnovers by the Owls and outscored them by a 36-16 margin in the paint.

Sophomore forward Brian Hanuschak went 11-for-12 from the floor on the way to 22 points and nine rebounds to lead the Golden Knights (4-3/3-3 NE-10). Senior guard Jermaine Clark tossed in 19 points, via five 3-pointers, while sophomore guard Shea Bromirski handed out a career-high six assists to go with four steals and six points.

Saint Rose used a 21-3 run in the early part of the second half that turned a 33-31 lead into a 20 point, 54-34, advantage with 9:01 remaining. Hanuschak drained a jumper to ignite the spurt and then freshman guard Andre Pope capped it with a layup. The Golden Knights led by no less than 14 the rest of the way.

Freshman guard Tobin Carberry paced Southern Connecticut State with 16 points and senior forward Clyde Chapman finished with 10 points and nine rebounds. Freshman center Ante Costic added 10 points in 22 minutes off the bench.

Saint Rose got off to a quick start with a 15-4 lead in the opening seven minutes, but the Owls responded with a 14-3 spurt that made it an 18-14 affair with 8:22 to go until intermission following a Costic 3-pointer. It pretty much remained a two possession game throughout the remainder of the first half and the opening five minutes of the second period, when the Golden Knights made their decisive run.

Up next, both teams return to the court for 7:30 pm conference games Tuesday. Saint Rose will host upstate rival Le Moyne, while Southern Connecticut State will head to Worcester, MA to take on Assumption.
